Coaching FAQs

Here are some answers to common questions about coaching and the coaching process in general.

What is coaching?
The International Coach Federation defines coaching "as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential".  I like to think of this partnership as a journey as well. As traveling companions, you and I clarify what it is that you want to achieve and then we travel together so you can actually get it. Sometimes we look into the past to identify a belief or a pattern, but we do not spend too much time here. We focus on the present and how to move forward to get more of what you want out of life in the future. This is one of the keys of coaching--the focus on the present and the future rather than the past.

Who benefits from coaching?
My short answer is everyone! If you are looking for something more, but don't know what it is or if you know exactly what it is, but feel very stuck in how to get it, coaching could be exactly what you need to move you further.

Who are you as a coach?
As a Certified Professional Coach, I am committed to supporting you in your journey. I offer a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can be just who you are. It's safe to uncover old beliefs and ideas and explore these with curiosity. I offer support, compassion and encouragement. I am a consolidator of your words and ideas and thoughts and I help you see things that you might never even have known were there. As a coach, I believe that YOU are the expert in your life and that YOU have the power to create the life you want. I am trained to ask the right questions and be the support you need to find all the answers that are already within. As I have lived in Sweden for a total of 15 years, I am fluent in Swedish and can offer coaching sessions in Swedish as well.

What can I expect from the coaching process?
The coaching process is different for everyone. And what you get depends a lot on where you are when you start. One common outcome, no matter where you begin, is to have more clarity--about that you want and even who you are. The coaching process can also be very reflective. The more time you put into reflecting and exploring within, the more you get out of it.

What types of clients and issues do you work with?
Because of my life experience, I am drawn to issues such as finding one's purpose in life, dealing with transitions and cross-cultural issues. Transitions are a huge part of life that many people try to rush through. I believe these life stages are great opportunities for learning--about life, about ourselves.

I see the one of the greatest transitions as the one of designing the kind of life you truly want. And so I work with anyone who is looking for something more out of life. If you need clarity about your next step, whether that be a next project or a bigger transition, we can work together so you get the support you need to find a clearer connection to yourself.

What does the process look like?
If you like visuals, click here for an illustration of the coaching model that I follow with a short explanation of the process and its elements. A short description of these non-linear step is also included. Nothing is written in stone and every journey is different. But this serves as a simplified map to guide us through. This is how we find YOUR something more and create steps to get you there.

What is the time commitment like for coaching?
The time commitment really depends on what you are working toward. Coaching is a process and it's important to allow time for that process to unfold.

What is the setup like? Do we meet in person or on the phone? How often?
I offer a few different options--face to face sessions, telephone sessions and email sessions. You can see some of these options here.
